Vegan Food Trucks
Veganism has enjoyed a rather steady rise in interest over the past few years and not just from animal lovers or cruelty free advocates.
There’s increasing exposure on social media and print of the health benefits associated with a whole foods plant-based diet, as well as health professionals riding the bandwagon. University educated Dieticians are coming around too but are still somewhat muffled by lobbyists and the government’s “5 food groups” principles.
Critics of vegan food talk of how expensive it is and it’s hard to source. It’s true – organic, plant-based food is usually dearer than your regular grocery shop, but the health benefits do outweigh processed or cheap imported foodstuffs for your dietary needs.
For those that say protein should be derived from animals – there’s also a fair body of evidence suggesting that an animal’s stress levels and even their state of mind when they became ‘processed’ can have an impact of the quality and toughness of a cut of meat, plus its acidity rises post mortem before they are cooled very quickly.
Vegans can still get their protein fix other than from animals from many plant sources such as grains, legumes, nuts, rice, soy, lentils & peas to name a few. Many of these also contain fibre – keeping your digestive system in balance.
Many athletes, bodybuilders and sportspeople have cut meat & dairy from their diets with awesome results. Some notables include Venus & Serena Williams, multiple Olympic champion Carl Lewis, UFC fighters Nate Diaz & Mac Danzig and F1 champ Lewis Hamilton.
With this in mind, the next time you’re peckish and couldn’t be stuffed cooking, why don’t you get on your bike or in your car and find some healthy, plant-based food from one of the vegan food trucks in your state or territory.
